The Vancouver Art Gallery features exhibition tours designed for school groups. These programs introduce tools to foster visual literacy in students, encouraging them to find pleasure and meaning in art and to think critically about the array of visual images that surround them.

School Programs Listings - Spring 2012

For School Visit

For students in grades 2-12, interactive programs include guided exhibition tours, art-making workshops, self-guided tours and full-day residency programs. Spring 2012 School Programs will begin February 13th. Bookings for Winter and Spring begin on January 21 through the Online Booking Form.

Available Monday to Thursday at 9:30am and 12:15pm

Available Monday to Thursday at 10:45am and 1:30pm

Self-Guided Tours
1 hour Tours
Available Fridays only from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
$40/class
One Day Workshops
Senior secondary students will have an opportunity to spend the morning exploring contemporary art throughout the gallery using the exhibitions. In the afternoon the students will respond to the work using mixed media.
$225/class
All Tours:
• include a Teacher's Study Guide with relevant information about artists, classroom activities, vocabulary and resources
• can accommodate a maximum of one class (30 students)
• require a minimum of 1 adult per 8 students, to a maximum of 8 adults at no charge
• must be cancelled at least 2 weeks in advance or the full fee will be charged

Please ensure that you have read the Visitor Guidelines before booking. School Programs booking requests can be made from January 21 by completing the Online Booking Form

The Vancouver Art Gallery believes that children’s learning is enhanced by repeat visits, and we offer a special reduced rate to encourage this. If a class is returning for a second or third visit, in the same a school year, we offer a reduction in fees. Please notify us when booking your repeat visits in the comment section of the Online Booking Form.

For Teachers

The Gallery offers orientations on specific exhibitions, Teacher's Study Guide (downloadable links below) and one-day professional development workshops focusing on visual literacy strategies and issues in contemporary art.

Staff Professional Development Days for 2011-12
Plan a full day or half day visit to the Vancouver Art Gallery for your entire staff to explore contemporary art and strategies for helping students respond to art. The session includes an exhibition tour and a hands-on workshop. Dates available upon request.
$800/full day; $600/half day.
